Becoming the Best You with Bernardo Moya
Hi everyone! And welcome back to Success to Significance. I’m your host Jen Du Plessis. And today with me, I have Bernardo Moya, and he is the, I love this by the way, Bernardo. He is the chief inspiration officer and founder of the Best You. Um, he’s an entrepreneur, he’s a bestselling author of the bestselling book “The Question”. And he’s writing a new book right now, cause we just talked about that in the green room. A speaker publisher, uh, TV producer, and a seminar promoter. And now someone, I love to call my friend because we’ve been on a cruise together with my, with all of us on the marketers cruise.
So welcome to our show. We’re so excited to have you here.
Thank you, Jen. Thank you so much for the opportunity. I’m really very, very grateful.
Yeah. Well, you know, I’m excited to have this conversation with you because we have not. It’s funny, you know, we’ve, we’ve seen each other several times. We’ve been in each other’s presence, but I really haven’t dug into you.
Right. I know that you’ve got your event coming up. That we’ll talk about here in a few minutes, but let’s talk about you. It’s very interesting. I know a little bit about your story, cuz you had mentioned to me, uh, you know, you’re you have an English accent. Mm-hmm but you’re from Spain. So tell us a little bit about you.
Well, my parents, there were both born in, uh, both Spanish immigrants moved to London. Uh, well, but they were both young after the Spanish civil war. And you know, we, well, they met there, they met there and like many, I mean the first immigrants in London were pretty much Italians and Spanish. And, and they met there and I was born there and I, I was there, I think till I was nine.
And then they moved us back to Spain because they wanted obviously for us to be brought up in Spain. And so, yeah, I managed to keep the English accent. My parents used to send me off to England every, every summer to keep the accent I’ve always worked with, um, with English companies, my wife, uh, my former wife is, was also English.
So yeah, managed to UN bilingual. I consider myself Spanish, but. Bilingual.
Yeah, I know. It’s funny. And I remember one day I had asked you to speak Spanish for me with your accent. And it was kind of interesting because there’s no accent, it’s just Spanish. It’s, it’s amazing. Mm-hmm yeah. It’s amazing. Um, so yeah, I think that’s really interesting.
So tell us a little bit about your growing up. It sounds like you went back, you know, you kind of went back and forth. You were going to schools. What did you study? Wait, what were you passionate about as a young child?
I wanted to be, I wanted to be a, a pilot. I don’t know. I was obsessed with, you know, with cabins and, you know, and I wanted to be a pilot.
That was my thing. And, and I remember, you know, it was something I wanted to do. And then unfortunately my dad passed away when I was 15. And. It kind of, you know, that went out the window because you know, my mom, you know, she was alone working and she wasn’t well off. And you know, it wasn’t an option for me to, to become a pilot.
So I wanted to, I, I, I attended in the armed forces and I did one year and I went back and then, you know, kind of a, I never, I never followed my dream. Then my, my fallback was a lawyer, but I ended up in real estate. I ended up in real estate, you know, uh, everyone in Spain, you know, there was so much construction.
So much property development, and I did everything in real estate from OPC, invited people into timeshare resort to running sales lines. Wow. Developing timeshare results, uh, construction, resale international real estate. I did it all.
Wow. It’s surprising to hear that because I, you know, you know, I’ve been in, was in the mortgage business, so it’s kind of it, and by the way, today, as we’re recording this, this is my 39th anniversary in the mortgage space.
And, um, and I can’t believe that we never talked about we never talked about that. So, so what have you done for the most of your career as you, you know, as we start talking about how you went into the Best You.
Well, I suppose probably still more probably. Still more real estate, to be honest, but I was always in the real estate aspect.
What, what really intrigued me was always sales, communication. You know, I, I was brought up with the American mentality of within time sharing, connecting with people and closing people. So I was always brought up with that mentality. And everything that I did was around, uh, learning how to communicate better, how to do more sales.
That’s why, you know, Jim, Ron, Brian, Tracy, you know, Les brown, they just, I loved them all because it was something that I always wanted to learn more from. So I spent more time in real estate, all done. Now I’ve literally been around 15 years in, in the personal development world.
